MOAB

$398

Introducing the “Mother of All Bass Traps”. The MOAB is our thickest bass trap that comes ready with 2 of our membranes. A damped membrane is installed at the front of the MOAB not only to absorb low frequency sounds, but also to reflect mid-high frequency sounds back into the room. This prevents the room from being “sucked-out” and encourages a lively sounding room. An additional pressure membrane is installed at the back to counteract against sound pressure instead of velocity, which is highest at a hard surface. The MOAB comes fully equipped with our open frame technology, mineral wool, air gap feature, easy mount system, airflow resistivity optimisation, and the world's first dual-membrane technology.

Product Description

MOAB-Poster

Absorbs low frequency sounds

The MOAB absorbs low frequency sounds in 2 ways. It decelerates particle velocity via rock wool insulation and reduces sound pressure via our dual membrane technology. When strategically placed, it prevents the room from sounding muddy and reduces low frequency standing waves.

Features of the MOAB

The following are features in the MOAB: open frame technology, airflow resistivity optimised mineral wool, Eco-friendly fabric, dual membrane technology.

Cutaway-Drawing-Bass-Trap

Open frame technology of

Our acoustic panels and bass traps are constructed to maximize total absorption area. With our open frame technology, our acoustic frames are up to 81% lighter. The total absorption surface is also increased by up to 81% more.

A lightness comparison to traditional frames:

Hybrid Panel
63% lighter
Bass Trap 2.0
76% lighter

Dual membrane technology

We introduced the world’s first dual membrane bass trap. Each MOAB is installed with 2 acoustic membranes for maximum low frequency absorption.

Damped membrane dm
This membrane serves 2 purpose. It is installed at the front of the MOAB to attenuate low frequency wavefront. It also reflects back some mid-high frequency sounds into the room, which encourages a live sounding room.
Pressure membrane pm
The MOAB is installed with a pressure membrane at the back. This is because the pressure membrane counteract against sound pressure instead of velocity, which is highest at a hard surface.

Eco-friendly fabric cf

Our new acoustic fabric is acoustically transparent and breathable. The low airflow resistivity of the fabric allows permeability of not only low frequency but mid-high frequency sounds. Made in Europe, our fabric is both fire-rated and certified to be eco-friendly.

Mineral wool rw

Our mineral wool fibre insulations are made from volcanic basalt rock and slag and are rigorously selected from our airflow resistivity optimisation process.

Mineral wool is particularly suited to meet the specific requirements of sound attenuation as a broadband sound absorber with a low Q factor. The fibre structure of mineral wool also provides fire protection and thermal insulation.

Air gap technology ag

Our acoustic frames are built with a 1″ air gap at the back to increase low frequency absorption.

Fire performance

The MOAB is made with some of the highest fire-resistance rating components.

Our mineral wool has the following fire-resistance ratings:

ASTM E 136
Non-Combustible
CAN4 S114
Non-Combustible
ASTM E 84(UL 723)
Flame Spread = 0, Smoke Developed = 0
CAN/ULC S102
Flame Spread = 0, Smoke Developed = 0

Our Eco-friendly fabric has the following fire-resistance ratings:

Flammability
Cal 117 SEC E Part 1
BS 5852-1990-Section 4 S 0 & 1
BS EN 1021-1 1994 (Cigarette)
BS EN 1021-1 1994 (Match)
BS 7176 1995 (Low Hazard)

What configuration should I use?

There are 4 configurations to the MOAB.

None
Free-stand on the floor or lean against the wall
Mounted Wall Kit
Mount on the wall vertically or horizontally
Suspended Ceiling Kit
Hang suspended from the ceiling
Flushed Ceiling Kit
Hang flushed from the ceiling

Our easy mount system allows the MOABs to be installed flushed against the wall.

How many MOABs do I need?

The number of MOABs needed will depend on your room size.

Small room
Less than 2,000 cubic feet: 4 to 8 pieces
Medium room
2,000 to 5,000 cubic feet: 8 to 16 pieces
Big room
More than 5,000 cubic feet: more than 16 pieces

Where do I place them?

Low frequency resonance in a room build up maximum sound pressure at trihedral corners, followed by dihedral corners. Place the MOABs at all corners of the room, starting with the trihedral corners followed by the dihedral corners. We recommend installing the Corner Trap Xs for trihedral corners. If excess bass is still present after the corners are treated, install more MOABs on the back wall of the room.
