Dolby Recording Studio, located at Oxley Bizhub 1 in Singapore, represents a milestone in professional audio production for Southeast Asia. Established by Mocha Chai Laboratories, this facility combines advanced recording capabilities with the cutting-edge Dolby Atmos system, catering to filmmakers, sound engineers, and the creative community.
As Singapore’s only Dolby Atmos dubbing theatre, the studio required exceptional acoustic treatment to meet Dolby Laboratories’ stringent standards. Aural-Aid, renowned for its expertise in acoustic solutions, was commissioned to design and implement a system that ensured optimal sound precision while enhancing the studio’s aesthetics².
Recording studios are among the most acoustically sensitive environments, where every sound detail must be captured and reproduced accurately. The Dolby Recording Studio faced several challenges:
These challenges demanded a highly specialized solution tailored to the unique needs of the space and its intended use³.
To address bass resonance, Aural-Aid installed Cellyx™ Wave panels, made from a blend of polyurethane and melamine foams. The wave-like structure of these panels increases the surface area for sound absorption, effectively managing low-frequency sounds that are critical in audio mixing and production.
The panels were strategically placed to optimize their performance, ensuring an even distribution of bass absorption throughout the studio. This setup minimized standing waves and enhanced the clarity of low-end audio frequencies⁴.
Fabrix™ Acoustic Panels for Mid-to-High Frequencies
For mid-to-high frequency absorption, Fabrix™ ML 27S (Mid Load) and EL 27S (Edge Load) panels were installed. These fabric-wrapped panels provided precise control over reflections and flutter echoes, ensuring that sound engineers could monitor audio with unparalleled accuracy.
The panels were customized with a sleek finish to match the studio’s modern design, blending functionality with aesthetics. The use of these panels ensured that the Dolby Atmos system performed as intended, delivering an immersive and accurate sound experience⁵.
Integration with Dolby Atmos Requirements
The acoustic treatment was calibrated to complement the Dolby Atmos system’s immersive audio capabilities. Aural-Aid’s expertise in balancing absorption, diffusion, and reflection ensured that the studio met the high standards set by Dolby Laboratories.
Aural-Aid’s work at Dolby Recording Studio exemplifies the power of precise acoustic design in enhancing functionality and aesthetics. By integrating Cellyx™ Wave and Fabrix™ panels, Aural-Aid created a space that meets Dolby Atmos standards while fostering creativity and technical excellence. This project underscores Aural-Aid’s ability to deliver custom solutions for even the most demanding acoustic challenges, setting a benchmark for professional audio environments.
